THANK YOU FOR READING

Dear Gaia Family,
Before anything else, thank you. So many of you have sent your friends, your family, and your neighbors our way, and we do not take that lightly. A referral is a real act of trust. It tells us you believe in the care you receive here, enough to put someone you love in our hands. We are grateful for every single one.
Our next Wednesday Night Wellness gathering is all about getting your immune system ready for winter. As the season turns, we spend more time indoors and closer together, which gives germs more room to spread. A little preparation now makes a real difference later. Join us on Wednesday, August 12th from 7 to 8pm, where Dr. Shaanta will share simple, natural ways to build your immune resilience before winter arrives, and explain why that groundwork matters so much.
We will look at how Nutrition Response Testing® and a nutrition program built just for you can help keep your whole family well through the colder months. Together we will cover what Nutrition Response Testing is, which supplements truly support immunity, and how to create a first aid kit you can reach for at the first sign of symptoms. This evening is a warm introduction for anyone curious about NRT and what it can do. In-person attendance is encouraged. Bring a friend and you will both receive a free gift as our thank you.
Curious what NRT actually is? Nutrition Response Testing is a gentle, non-invasive way we listen to what your body is telling us. Using muscle response, we check how your nervous system is handling stress and where it may need help. From there, we build a targeted plan using whole-food supplements to support your body in doing what it was designed to do, which is to heal and find balance. It is one of the ways we work to get to the root of things rather than chase symptoms.
We are also glad to share that Thermography is coming to our office for one day only. On Saturday, September 5th, Tatiana Yefremova of Wellness Thermography will offer scans right here at Gaia Family Medicine. Thermography is a comfortable, radiation-free imaging tool that reads heat and circulation patterns in the body. There is no compression and no contact, it is suitable for all ages, and every scan is reviewed by Dr. Shaanta. It is a gentle way to track changes over time alongside your regular care. Space is limited, so to learn more or to reserve your spot, call Tatiana directly at 404 254 9048.
A Few Updates on Our Rates and Billing
Like so many of you, we have watched the cost of nearly everything climb over the past few years. We held our pricing steady for as long as we could. To keep offering the quality of care and the products you count on, we are making a few modest adjustments.
First, we will now be honoring our time-based pricing as it was always intended. Your appointments are billed in 15-minute increments, which lets us give you focused, unhurried time. This simply means we will apply that structure consistently going forward.
Second, our rates will increase slightly. We kept the change as small as we could while still doing right by our team and our practice.
Finally, any purchase made by credit card will now include an automatic 3% processing fee. This covers what our card processor charges us. You can avoid it entirely by paying with cash, debit, HSA/FSA or check.
None of these changes touch the heart of what we do, which is to show up for you fully. Thank you for understanding, for trusting us, and for being part of this community. We are honored to walk this path of health alongside you.
In health and gratitude,
Drs Shaanta & Lynda Kelly
Two Simple Ways to Support
Your Lymphatic Flow By Lynda
Many of us here at Gaia Family Medicine are working through some form of detox right now, and we want to share two simple practices that make any cleanse work better. They are dry brushing and rebounding. Both are gentle. Both take only a few minutes. And both support the same quiet system in your body, your lymph. You can do one or the other, or you can do both together. We love pairing them.
Before we get to the how, we want to tell you why the lymphatic system deserves your attention. It is a quiet workhorse. It is a large part of your immune defense, and it helps your body guard against illness. The lymph nodes act as filters. They hold immune cells that catch and clear what does not belong. The system also keeps your fluids in balance, so your tissues do not stay swollen or puffy. And it carries away the waste your cells leave behind. When your lymph flows well, you tend to feel lighter and more energized. When it moves slowly, you may feel tired, heavy, or run down.
Here is the key thing to understand. Unlike your blood, your lymph has no pump. Your heart moves your blood for you, but your lymph depends on you to keep it flowing. Muscle motion, deep breathing, and gentle stimulation all help it along. This is exactly where dry brushing and rebounding come in. Both give your lymph the movement it needs.
Dry Brushing
Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like. You take a natural bristle brush and move it across your dry skin before you shower. People have used this practice for centuries to wake up the body and care for the skin. We love it because it asks for only a few minutes and gives back more than you would expect.
The brush matters. Look for one with natural bristles, like boar hair or a plant fiber such as sisal or cactus. Try to avoid synthetic bristles. A brush with a long handle helps you reach your back and the backs of your legs. If your skin is on the sensitive side, choose a softer brush to start.
The method is easy to learn. Start with dry skin, before you step into the shower. Begin at your feet and brush upward in long, smooth strokes. Always move toward your heart. Use gentle circles over your knees, elbows, and belly. Keep the pressure light. The whole thing takes about three to five minutes. When you finish, shower as usual and follow with a good moisturizer.
The benefits go beyond the skin. Dry brushing sloughs away dead skin cells, so your skin feels smoother and looks brighter. It stimulates circulation, which brings a fresh sense of energy. And because many lymphatic vessels sit just beneath the surface of the skin, brushing upward toward your heart encourages that fluid to move in the direction it is meant to go. You are gently supporting your body's own cleanup system.
Rebounding (or jump for joy as I like to call it)
Rebounding is light bouncing on a mini-trampoline, called a rebounder. It may look like child's play, but it is one of the best things you can do for your lymph. It is also just plain fun, and we find that people stick with the practices they enjoy.
Here is why it works so well. Every time you bounce, your body moves through a change in gravity. At the top of each bounce you feel almost weightless. At the bottom you feel a gentle increase in pressure. This up and down rhythm is thought to help open and close the tiny valves in your lymphatic vessels, which encourages lymph to move through the body. Few things get your whole lymphatic system going the way rebounding does.
The benefits stack up quickly. Rebounding supports lymphatic flow and circulation. It is a low-impact form of cardio, so it is much easier on your knees, hips, and ankles than running on hard ground. The soft mat absorbs the shock for you. It gently builds strength in your legs and core. It challenges your balance and coordination. And because it is weight-bearing, it supports healthy bones. Most people also notice a real lift in mood and energy afterward.
You do not need long sessions to see the benefit. If you are new to it, start with five to ten minutes a day. As you grow more comfortable, you can work up to fifteen or twenty minutes. Even a few short sessions spread through the day will help your lymph keep moving. Listen to your body and build slowly.
As for technique, the gentlest place to start is the health bounce. Stand with your feet about hip-width apart, keep your knees soft, and bounce lightly without lifting your feet off the mat. Your heels rise and fall, but your feet stay in contact. This small, steady motion is wonderful for lymphatic flow and is easy to hold for several minutes. When you feel ready for more, you can add a light jog in place, gentle jumping jacks, or lift your knees a little higher. Keep your core engaged and land softly through your whole foot. If your balance feels unsteady, choose a rebounder with a support bar and hold on until you find your rhythm. Many people prefer to bounce barefoot for better grip and foot strength.
A Word on Both
We encourage our patients to treat these as small rituals rather than chores. Notice how your skin feels. Notice your breath. A practice done with attention tends to serve you more deeply than one you rush through. Three or four times a week is plenty for dry brushing, though some enjoy it daily, and a short daily bounce is easy to fold into your morning.
Now a few words of caution. With dry brushing, never brush over broken skin, open wounds, rashes, sunburn, or irritated areas. If you live with eczema, psoriasis, or very sensitive skin, check with your provider first. Be gentle around varicose veins, and skip your face unless you are using a brush made for it. Keep your brush clean and dry, and do not share it. If brushing ever leaves your skin red or sore, you are pressing too hard.
With rebounding, start slow and use a support bar if your balance is uncertain. Check with your provider first if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, deal with joint or pelvic floor concerns, or are recovering from surgery. Choose a well-made rebounder with a sturdy frame. And as with anything new, stop if something does not feel right.
Both of these practices are gentle reminders that wellness does not have to be complicated. A natural brush, a small trampoline, a few quiet minutes, and a little intention can go a long way toward helping your body do what it already knows how to do. If you have questions about whether these are right for you, or how to add them to your detox protocol, we are always glad to talk it through.
